If you get a chance Kilchoman is a great place to visit and Machir Bay is one of the best beaches you'll see anywhere. Live music, open buildings for self guided tours and lots of events made it a great day at possibly my favourite distillery. Thursday was off to for a bottlers experience where we got to give their single cask experience a go, filling, sealing and labelling our own bottles to take home after (a very nice Port finish). Some great live music, oysters and of course delicious whisky followed before the obligatory picture of No.1 Vaults from the beach. The view from their stillhouse is one to behold, maybe the best on the island? We then walked on to for the afternoon, a lovely sunny walk listening to the sound of the event carrying over the bay to us. Our tour incorporates the Isle of Jura, Caol Ila, Ardnahoe and Bunnahabhain distilleries which are all very close to each other, despite this we recommend taking your time, absorbing the beauty of the Isles and taking a deep breath away from the hustle of the mainland. With epic scenery and a thriving whisky scene it would make for the perfect staycation.

What a great way to connect with 🥃 traditions.Ĭan't wait to try the new make / the first expression. The water to be used comes from the nearby Loch. They focus on producing peated whisky at the moment which is malted at the Port Ellen Maltings using barley from the mainland as most of the Islay distilleries.
It is located 2 miles from the Bunnahabain distillery and faces the Paps of Jura (what a view!). Booking the morning tour there was noone else with us on the tour, so I could pester our very knowledgable tour guide with my geeky questions.
